12 Occasion Outfit Ideas For All Budgets

I have realised it has been quite a long while since I have done a fashion based post, and whilst I enjoy doing the life/grow ones, I just really wanted to do something fashion related. Occasions can be quite hard to find an outfit for whether it’s a wedding, a baby shower, an engagement party, we have all been there trying to find something to wear. Even if you don’t have an occasion coming up, you still may see something you like! I know everyone has different budgets, which is why I have set 3 different categories for different price ranges, with 4 outfits for each category. I could of included a lot more, but I didn’t know what would be too much as a reader to look at. If you did want to see more, I could easily do a part 2. Or if you wanted to see a post of outfit ideas for a different category like beachwear or workwear etc, I can do that too, just let me know in the comments. I also wanted to include everyone in this post, so I was looking for outfits for different body types, I have also included a maternity outfit for each budget and not only have I included dresses, but also an alternative option to dresses in each budget category. I have attached links to where you can get these outfits from, under each picture. Now I’ve explained my thought process and the reasons why I’ve laid out the posted the way I have, lets get on with it and I hope you enjoy!

Budget – £30 – £50

  1. Flounce London shift mini dress with bell sleeves in mixed heart print – £45

I know this isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea but I just couldn’t not include this dress. Nothing says your celebrating love more than a dress covered in hearts, this would be great to wear as a wedding guest! It is quite a bold choice of dresses, but I just visually love it. I really love the floaty bell sleeves as I feel it makes this look a little bit more softer. I also really like the dress length, as any longer I don’t think it would look right and would be too much in the face. For accessories and shoes I would keep it very simple and minimal, you would want to let the dress do the talking. I think silver is definitely the way forward, I would personally choose some wedges to pair with the dress and a little silver clutch bag. I would choose a ring, something quite dainty, and some studs. I actually think silver or rose gold jewelry would work well but I would leave it at that. I don’t think a bracelet is needed because of the sleeves and a necklace is going to make it look busy.

2. Curvy Mini Wrap Dress – £25

The next dress I’ve chosen is this little wrap dress. I love how versatile this dress is, its not a buy once and bury it away in your wardrobe and forget about it dress. This can be worn in the Spring/Summer months meaning that at just £25 its a massive steal because of how much wear you would get out of it and it can be dress up or down. I personally wouldn’t wear trainers I don’t think but this dress with heels, wedges or even sandals I think would look really nice. I like the side tie waist as it accentuates the curves and shows off the waist. The frill at the bottom is a really nice added touch, as if it was just a straight hem I think it could make the dress look quite limp and wouldn’t draw my attention to buy it. I also really like the colour as it can go with lots of others colours giving you lots of different accessory options to pair with the dress and goes with gold or silver jewelry.

3. River Island Maternity Pink Front Wrap Floral Maxi Dress – £45

Next up we have this beautiful dainty floral maxi dress from River Island. This is also in their main collection as well as maternity. I don’t have any experience shopping for maternity clothes but it wasn’t until I did this post that I realised it is actually quite difficult. Maternity collections are quite small collections which really surprised me. I really love the print of this dress and the places they decided to put the boldest parts. I actually think this would make a great baby shower dress. I love how floaty the sleeves are, the colour is soft and also very girly. Tie wrap dresses seem to be really in at the moment and where the tie sits on this one, it will definitely accentuate your bump. Price wise, I think £45 is very reasonable as I feel the dress has more of an expensive look to it. I don’t feel like you need to add much accessory wise as you wouldn’t want to overcrowd the look but I feel a little necklace would look lovely with the V-neck neckline, like they have done in the image.

4. ASOS Design Pleated Playsuit With Belt In Blue Floral – £32

Lastly, in the under £50 category is this ASOS playsuit. Yes, you read it correctly, a playsuit that looks like a dress! No need to worry about your dress blowing up. I really love the contrast of colours used in the design and the fact they also used the print on the belt too just makes it even more stunning. Another great thing about this playsuit is that you can adjust the straps, which I think is great. How many of us have had items of clothing where we have had to keep pulling the straps up. The fact that you can adjust the straps, means you’ll get the perfect fit around the sweetheart neckline, meaning nothing will be gaping! I also love the pleating in the shorts part, as it leaves them quite floaty and to have more of a loose effect, rather than that part being fitted too. It really is fitted in all the right areas. You could also wear this with tights in the colder months, you may even get away with a long sleeve black top underneath. I think at £32, you really can’t argue with that!

Budget – £50 – £100

French Connection Felicity Puff Sleeve Midi Dress – £85

The first thing that caught my eye when I saw this dress is the print. I love this geo print, there are a lot of different prints around at the moment but not many like this. This dress is very versatile as it can be worn both day and night, with heels or with flats. The silhouette is beautiful, I really like the way its synched in at the waist and then flows out at the bottom, almost like it’s a two piece and the bottom is a midi skirt. The cut out is a nice touch as well, as it breaks up the print a bit and shows just a little bit of skin. Another thing I like is the neckline that then flows through to the puffy sleeves. I feel that puffy sleeves are very flattering for the arms and gives a lovely shape around the shoulders. Jewelry wise, I would keep this simple, nothing too blingy and I wouldn’t wear a necklace. For a bag if using one, I would opt for a plain colour, and nothing too big. Price wise, I think this is very good, I actually thought it was going to be more than what it is!

ASOS Edition Curve High Neck Blouson Sleeve Mini Dress – £95

How cute is this dress? Everything about it just looks so luxurious and sophisticated! The floral embroidery is what really makes this dress though as without it, it would look so plain. Although the flowers are quite big, I would say they aren’t too in your face and actually look delicate, rather than tacky. The length is great as it shows off the legs and as seen on the model, does look great with a pair of heels. The sleeves are another statement when it comes to this dress with them being voluminous when you get to the wrists. This adds to how floaty the dress is, which also means you can bust out all the moves on the dance floor without feeling restricted. This shade of purple is lovely too, it’s definitely a dress that is going to make you feel good! Accessory wise, you don’t need too much, I think less is more and maybe just a pair of earrings is needed and let the dress do the talking. Although this is top end of the budget, I think this dress is definitely worth it!

ASOS Design Maternity Tie Front Button Through Midi Dress – £62

How beautiful is this dress? The colour is stunning and goes with the flowers perfectly. I love the way the material falls around the arms and the ankles. I’m not sure if it’s the sites I’m looking at but I’ve noticed most maternity dresses are midi/maxi length at the moment but it could just be the season. I really like the tie front around the bust area, I’ve not seen that style anywhere before, but it doesn’t take away from the bump. Also another reason I think the tie is great, is you can change it to fit around the bust to how you want it. I also like the randomness of where the flowers are placed, it’s just the right amount, and they are also embroidered on which shows a lot more detail as to printed. The colours chosen for the flowers make them stand out just enough without being too in the face. Again, in my opinion you don’t need to add a lot of jewelry to go with this outfit. I personally would just wear some earrings and some rings and keep it to a bare minimum.

Lace And Beads Ruched Tulle Bralet – £35 And Maxi Skirt – £65

This is the outfit that made me want to do this post in the first place! I love this co-ord so much it’s just gorgeous. Lets start off with the bralet. I love the fact that it has adjustable straps, as there is nothing worse when your straps won’t stay up. I also love the sweetheart neckline, as this just gives the top a bit more shape, rather than just a straight line. The maxi skirt is probably the showstopper though. I love all the layers of tulle to this skirt, it just looks like the perfect skirt to swoosh about in. The different tones of pinks on the floral print are just stunning. There is so many occasions this would be perfect for, it would be great for holidays, valentines, weddings etc. Silver jewelry would look lovely with this colour and it wouldn’t matter how much you wear of it either, I would just chose very dainty pieces though. I definitely think this is well worth the price though, as if you get the full set you can wear the skirt and top separately to create other outfits too.

Budget – £100 +

Dream Sister Jayne Scents Organza Tiered Dress – £195

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything horrible on Sister Jayne’s website. They have the most beautiful clothes and you are bound to find something for every occasion, or for no occasion at all! I love how the fabric falls from the neck, with the tiers separating the ruffles. I think it’s super cute that they have included these on the sleeves as well. Although the dress may look fairly plain, there are so many details that are easy to miss and go underappreciated. Another thing I love is the high neck, I think it gives modernized Victorian vibes, with the puffiness of the sleeves being just enough. The soft pink colour choice just makes this a real girly girl dress, I just think it’s lovely. This could be paired with any colour jewelry, and I think a shoulder bag would look really cute as well, nothing too big, just a little chain one. I know this is on the higher end of things, but this is a dress that will age well in your wardrobe for years, so you can get plenty of wear out of it

ASOS LUXE Curve Flower Embellished Midi Dress – £160

Next up is this ASOS bodycon dress. I really wanted to include a bodycon dress, as I feel a bodycon makes any body shape look good as they fit to your silhouette. One thing that grabbed my attention is this beautiful blue colour which is perfect for all year round. The sequin flower embellishments are also what makes this into quite an ‘extra’ dress. I really like the way they have done the flowers with the sequins almost making them look 3D with the layers, which is so clever to do in my opinion. It’s lovely how they have incorporated this into the sleeves as well. Speaking of the sleeves, I like the slight puffiness of the sleeves which then causes this ruffle effect down the sleeves. It’s not too much or in your face and doesn’t leave too much loose material around the arms. This is also a dress you could get away with wearing tights underneath as well if it’s colder or want that extra layer. I also think this dress would be great for a Christmas party look!

Hope & Ivy Maternity Plunge Front Embroidered Midi Dress – £120

It was quite a difficult job finding a higher end maternity dress, but I eventually found one from Hope & Ivy who do stunning clothing. I have also managed to find a midi dress, which I was so determined to do. That was one of the things that drew my to this dress but the other thing was the side split, as it doesn’t go to high up but just adds that little bit more detail. The green is such a lovely color, I really feel like green is having it’s moment right now and I’m loving it. (even though I don’t own anything green!) I really like the length of the sleeves and how floaty they are which adds a really nice element to go with the rest of the dress. The floral design is also lovely, you can’t see from this picture, but on parts of it the print looks like beading, like small little circles to create the design. Another detail is the cute little tie that sits over the bump. You can dress this up with accessories to however you like, or it still looks lovely keeping it simple.

Hope & Ivy Embroidered Flutter Sleeve Twist Front Jumpsuit – £110

We finish up on another beautiful number by Hope & Ivy. I think the colour is stunning,. Red works really well with all skin tones as well, as some people say, you shouldn’t wear such and such colour if your pale etc, but I feel like red works well for everyone. As mentioned before, I really love the length of the sleeves and how floaty it is. How amazing that there is a hidden hook to adjust the plunge neckline, I think that is such a great touch and I wish more brands did this too. The knot front is beautiful with the gold embroidery sitting across the shoulders and falling down delicately around the neckline. I love how they’ve just kept the flowers for the top part and kept the trousers part of the jumpsuit plain. Speaking of the trousers part, I think they are easy to bypass but I love that they are wide legged as wide leg can really highlight your shoes and bring them inro the outfit as a statement piece. For £110, I really think this is way worth the money and more!

So there you have it, I hope you enjoyed a slightly different post from me. I really enjoyed creating this post and I hope it helps you in some form, or if you are just like me and want a nosey at some lovely clothes!

I would love to know which outfit is your favourite and where you shop for your clothes?
