My Listening Ear 2025 – April

This month has gone kind of quick, hasn’t it?! I have gone for a kind of chilled vibe this month in terms of song recommendations, and I discovered quite a few different artists as well. It’s definitely a strong “My Listening Ear” month for male vocals. Some artists you have probably heard of already and others are probably less well known to a lot of you but equally as good. I also ended up including two songs with very similar titles. I’m not sure how that happened, but they are both different! I don’t know if you guys prefer to have specific genres of music each month or if you would rather me still include a variety but I just had a look at what I have been listening to this month and felt these songs in particular fit in well with a similar style. As always, I include the links in the titles that will take you to YouTube so you can listen to them, and hopefully, you can discover at least one new song you like! So that being said, let’s get on with this months song recommendations!

I’m so glad that I’ve recently discovered Madilyn, her voice is a breath of fresh air and the tones to her voice are beautiful. I was torn between which song of hers to include in this post but definitely go check out “Lightning in a Bottle” as it’s equally as great as “Another Kind of Love.” Her songs bring this sort of calmness to you, and her lyrics speak words that people leave unsaid.

Another artist I’ve not heard of before, and I can’t even think how I was introduced to this song, but it was in my Shazam’s for this month, and I like it! It’s a song with a really great background beat and would make a good backing track for a film. I really like how the different tempos fade in and out throughout the track. It’s quite chilled vibes as well and an easy listen, but if you do get a chance to properly listen to the lyrics or look them up, then do as there’s definitely a story being told within them. He released his first album around 9 months ago, so if you like what you hear, then be sure to check out the rest of his album. I think it will be a hit with a lot of people and something people can relate to.

I love this tune it’s so relaxing and comforting to listen to you, and I love the whistling sounds throughout. There’s a chance you’ve probably heard this song before without knowing who is the artist behind it as it has been featured a lot in series and films and I can really see why, it’s great.

Everything about this song is beautiful, but the lyrics really are something else and what stands out the most, melting each part of the song together. I think Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran compliment each other voices so well and is a collaboration you didn’t know you needed. The song says perfectly how the heart knows best and what it wants. Despite what you think about either of them, there is no denying that they are both very talented artists. I imagine it’s a song that will be played at weddings as people’s first dance for years.

I did mention Ruelle in my last listening ear, so I will keep this short, but another one of her songs popped up the other day that I love, and that is this one. It’s quite an old one of hers but nevertheless one worth a mention!

Cian’s voice reminds me so much of Dermot Kennedy’s, and I mean that as the biggest compliments because I love Dermot’s. Cian has a stunning vocal range, and this song shows that off. I picked this one in particular as it has so much meaning behind it. It resonates with the feelings of losing someone, and unfortunately, I lost an old friend of mine at the weekend, so I find the lyrics quite relatable. Going back to Cian’s vocals, another thing I love is the fact that you can hear his Irish accent coming through when he’s singing, which is so pleasant to hear.

This song is actually about 4 years old but I think in the last year or so it floats around a lot and gains popularity again as it’s one a lot of people seem to cover on various talent shows and also it was mentioned on the Celine Dion documentary. I think it also remains so popular because it’s a song many people can relate to the lyrics, myself being one of those. It speaks to those who need to love themselves more and the emotion behind Wyn’s voice. You can tell he means every single word he is singing. From the first note to the very last is perfect and what a voice!

Last but not least, is this catchy number by Izzy and Stevie. I must admit I don’t know much about these two, and there’s not much on Izzy’s YouTube channel either, sadly. I love the beat behind her voice, although quite simple, it’s effective, and Izzy’s voice kind of glides with its tempo. Her voice reminds me of a lot of Paloma Faith’s. It’s quite a strong voice and has a lot of power behind it. I like the depth, and although it can be quite deep in places, it still has a nice tone, and I love the change from low to higher notes throughout as they catch you off guard. There’s a positiveness within the lyrics, and you do find yourself picking up the words quite quickly. It’s a shame her songs haven’t reached more people because I think she has a great talent.

Who’s your favourite band/artist at the moment?
