Happy belated New Year! I hope this year is a really good one for you all and lots of good things happen for you. I thought we’d ease our way into the New Year by kickstarting with a music recommendation post. I can’t believe how long it’s been since I last did one of these, nearly a year in fact! However apart from my more personal posts, these seem to be what you like the most and I didn’t want to kickstart the year with being too serious, which is why I thought a music approach would be better. If you are new here, hello! I hope you enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy creating them. How my listening ear works is I will recommend seven songs for seven days of the week and then at the end I will put in a throwback song just for a bit of fun. Links to these songs are included in the title of the song, to make this easier for you to find. If you think these posts will just be related to whatever is in the charts, you are wrong as I don’t listen to the charts anymore as I very rarely listen to the radio. I find most of my music these days through things that I’ve watched, if I hear anything I like when I’m out anywhere, or just through finding it myself when I’m looking for new music.
I will try to post these on a more regular basis as I never thought they would go down as well as they did. I do try to include a mixture of different tempos and genres in my posts, but I also understand they may not necessary be for everyone and mood and personal preference/taste can also play a factor in that, but I hope you decide to stick around. I also try to include a song that not necessary everyone would have heard of. As per usual though I am rambling on a bit now, so without further ado, I hope you find at least one song that you really like and lets introduce you to the first song!
I thought I’d kickstart with a quirky catchy song. Once you’ve heard it, the tune will be stuck in your head all day. I love the different dynamics to this song, I’d be surprised if it doesn’t manage to lift your mood. For me, I just can’t help but sway to the beat and doing some questionable dance movements. I’ve just watched the music video for the first time too and it’s as fun as the song, with lots of different costume changes. The song kind of gives end credit vibes to a film or tv show haha.
I had never heard of Maren before until this song came on at the cool down section of the end of a workout video I was doing. As soon as I heard it, I instantly feel in love with it as it’s such a beautiful song and also has quite a soulful undertone. Maren has an incredible voice and is very good at story telling through her lyrics and the different pitches she changes into. This song is slower paced but it’s not a sad song, it’s more of a happy, thankful one. It’s a good song to start the morning or finish the day with as it gives you a chance to ease into the morning or unwind at the end of the day. Do you know those kind of songs I’m talking about? I’ve seen that Maren also has an album too, so I will definitely be checking out the rest of the songs on her album, as I’m sure there is some more undiscovered gems to be found there. I actually find that when you look artists albums, you sometimes find ones that are even better than the ones they decided to release off the album..
I’m not going to lie I’m slightly jealous of anyone who has been to see Taylor or managed to get tickets to her UK tour, I can’t even begin to imagine how many people signed up that list so well done to those who got selected. Back to the song! The melody is super catchy and the song is simple yet pleasing to the ears. I like the lyrics that surround the “You should be doing more”. In a world that can be chaotic and hectic and feeling you should be doing more, it really is okay to be happy doing less and slower paced but also nothing really beats being home. I love that she partly wrote the lyrics as well. There’s something more raw about that. I saw someone describe this song like a lullaby and I think that sums it up completely. It’s soft and perfect to enjoy listening to in the background. I don’t think there is a song of Taylor’s that I don’t like!
Another album I must really get round to listening too. Ashe has such a strong and powerful voice which makes her stand out from a lot of other female vocalists. I thought “Moral Of The Story” couldn’t be beaten, however I think I could be wrong here. Her songs always give off a main character energy and almost are like mini lessons that you learn in life all wrapped up into each song, which is really relatable.
I’m sure FINNEAS is a name most people have heard of and rightly so, he is very talented in his own right as well as his sister. The different tones to his voice are unique and add more depth. I think this song is underrated and just in general his music too.
Freya’s voice has always reminded me of Florence’s voice from Florence And The Machine. What actually happened to Freya? She had success with “Lost Without You” when it was played on Love Island, then released another song but then we haven’t really heard of anything since. I really thought she would be around for longer than she has been. Nevertheless this is still another really good song from her album. I think I heard this on a film and straight away had to find the full version to listen to.. Her voice isn’t for everyone but that doesn’t take away from the fact that she can sing. There is something quite pure and also haunting of her voice and hopefully we will hear music from Freya again soon.
I think when you actually look up the lyrics to this song, you realise how sad it actually is, it’s very easy to get distracted by the tune. It’s a song full of emoticon. The lyrics can easily be adaptable to a personal experience experience in individuals lives. The lyrics are also a masterpiece and still age well after so many years later as mental health is something many people struggle with on a daily basis. It’s a song that you can come back to and you feel all the things you felt when you heard it for the first time. The tune is quite upbeat and cheery and after a stressful or down day, can leave you feeling the complete opposite. I just love this song and it definitely deserved to be a recommendation in this post.
This is the throwback for week 1, it’s definitely a random one as well! I decided to choose a song from the iconic Britney Spears, one that I think people could easily forget. Radar was released in November 2008, which is nearly 14 years ago! I definitely feel old after finding that out. The song was featured on the album “Blackout” but also as a bonus track on the album “Circus” too, with it being the forth song to be released from it. Unfortunately though it didn’t do too well in the charts with the highest spot it hitting in the UK being No.46, not even making it into the top 40. Radar has a bouncy beat, one that can be easily danced to. The chorus and melody are almost like a nursing rhyme, that doesn’t take away from the catchiness of it though and I’m not going to lie, it’s on my playlist. I find it hard to understand why it didn’t do so well as it still very much fits in with the style of Britney’s songs. Nevertheless it is still a song that I really like and one that I’m sure many others like too and I wonder if it got rereleased if it would perhaps do better?
What would you recommend?
A x
