I have been waiting and waiting for this to come out, I kept seeing the trailer on TV but it wasn’t out in the cinema yet. I am a massive fan of horror films, I’ve watched a lot on my own at home, but I really love the whole Conjuring series and the other films that come from it. I’ve also just watched the whole series of Bates Motel, and so Vera Farmiga has quickly become one of my favourite female actresses. I think I have seen all of them now apart from The Conjuring 2, so I need to get this watched before number 3 comes out. I have also seen two more films will be coming out in the future, those being The Nun 2 and The Crooked man, so that gives me something to look forward to too. Now for my opinion on the third Annabelle installment.
The film starts off with how the Warrens receive Annabelle, and what she did to end up in the glass cabinet. It then fast forwards on to 4 years later where the Warrens leave a babysitter, Mary, in charge of looking after their daughter Judy for the night. The night soon takes a horrible turn, when Annabelle is messed with, which unlocks all sorts of dark and terrifying happenings. With this in mind, it soon comes apparent (SPOILER ALERT) that Judy can see spirits, and has being doing without telling anyone for a while. Will they be able to make Annabelle stop?
This was the most jumpiest film I have ever seen. To start off with, there was only a few jumps here and there, but honestly give it a chance, because about half way through, it was non stop scares until the film ended. Horror films don’t usually bother me, but there was times when I daren’t look at the screen to see whats happening. To give you an insight on how scary it is, there was a lot of screaming in the cinema haha. The plot was quite basic, but that’s all it needed to be. I like the way they told you how Annabelle got in the hands of the Warrens in the first place. The actresses chosen for this film, were all perfect for their roles, and played their parts strongly, rather than the cliche cheesy actors and actresses you usually see in horror films, that make it more of a joke. It definitely introduces new characters, which could definitely be used for their own films.
So as I said, the film took a while to get properly started, and for it to start with the scary bits. I also felt that the build up to the scary bits were becoming a bit repetitive and predictable, but the build up became worth it, when it was just full on scares. I’ve heard a lot of people say that its the worst one out of the franchise, but I feel that is harsh and wouldn’t listen to them. Will there be another Annabelle? I’m not sure, I’m struggling to see how there could be. I feel like there will be films based on the other items in the room now, and I know they are doing another The Nun 2.
I was thinking after the film had finished, that the films they could do are endless. There are so many objects in the room that is locked up, that they could do like another 50 films. It was also sweet that they paid tribute to Lorraine Warren who recently died in April, which is also why I think the film ended nicely, as to usually ending at a cliffhanger. Can I just say as well, 2 couples came in the middle of the film, and I have a feeling they got the wrong screen number, because 10 mins later they walked out. So weird, but funny.
My Film Rating: 10/10
