December Movie Watch List

Hello Everyone!

I am super excited to be writing this post, and I think it might have to be my favourite every post I’ve wrote! Today marks the 1st day of December, and I thought what better way to kick it off with a December movie guide! As much as I’m excited for the TV guide to be released, so I can circle all the things I want to watch, I also thought I wanted to do my own film guide. It can be used like an Advent Calendar, and there is something on the list for everyone! There is even a horror film on there, and no its not Krampus… who remembers that total flop haha. I’ve also thought, for those who have kids, why not pick and selection of films, (they don’t have to be new, you could already own them!) and wrap them up in wrapping paper, then each night, or every few nights, let your child unwrap one, and that’s what you’ll watch that night for family film night. Put on your Christmas tree lights, grab some snacks, and get snuggled up on the sofa!

The Polar Express

Based on the book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg, The Polar Express sees a young boy step on a mysterious train that pulls up outside his house and embark on a magical adventure to the North Pole: a journey which involves learning about bravery, friendship and the spirit of Christmas. A really cosy film that has all the feels, a good one to kick off the Christmas period.

Love Actually

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like this film! Few movies can compare to Love Actually, where you find yourself drawn into each characters personalities and lives. If you liked Valentines Day, you will love this.

Frozen

A good one to watch right now, especially if you’re off to the cinema to watch Frozen 2. Looking for catchy songs, funny and a heart felt film? This is perfect for you! Directed by Jennifer and Chris Buck, Frozen follows Anna and a few friends along the way, to help change the weather condition, after her sister Elsa curses their home in infinite Winter. Anna later finds out that a friend isn’t as they seem, in the ultimate act of betrayal.

Pirates Of The Caribbean – The Curse Of The Black Pearl

Action and fantasy buffs alike will love this film, based on the popular attraction at Disney theme parks – pirates who are under a supernatural curse, where they become undead skeletons at night. Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirates life for me!

Drop Dead Fred

Probably not one on everyone’s list, or one that even gets thought about. It’s not Christmas until you’ve watched a childhood favourite. An imaginary friend, fun and light hearted… what more could you want?

A Bug’s Life

In my opinion, the most underrated Pixar film ever made. This animated gem was inspired by by Aesop’s fable The Ant and the Grasshopper – No one has done a film about bugs like John Lasseter. No one.

Monsters Inc.

Is it even Christmas without Mike and Sulley? The first film in the Monsters installment focuses on monsters having to scare children to make them scream, in order to power the city. Children however are toxic to the monsters, and after one gets through, things prove to be very challenging. With two films in total, why not watch the other one straight after for more monster scares.

Jurassic World

For those of us who want to change things up a bit from animated insects and monsters, there’s Jurassic World. Action packed, adventurous, the Chris Pratt and Bryce Howard power duo and whole sci-fi vibe. Count me in! Plus who wouldn’t love a theme park, where you could go and experience seeing dinosaurs? #whyisthisnotathing

Shrek

How could I not include Shrek?! If you want to see a film with funny twists on your favourite fairy-tale characters new and old, this is a watch for you. One for all the family to enjoy, as there is humor for all to enjoy.

Pitch Perfect

Singing voices at the ready, this one will make you want to join a Capella group. Pitch Perfect is a fun, feel good and highly entertaining movie, which will have you in hysterics and singing the catchy re-imagined songs for days.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone

So after re watching this film not so long ago, admittedly the computer animation isn’t perfect, but does get a whole lot better as the films go on. I’m not complaining though, when I get to witness Alan Rickman’s incredible acting again though. Making you check your post every morning, hoping to get a Hogwarts letter – it’s the kind of film you can enjoy while wrapping presents, or writing out your Christmas food shop list.

The BFG

This is one of two films that I first fell in love with as a child, and am still in love with after all this time thirty two years after it’s release. The BFG is still making waves, as the remake has not long been around, which still carries the made up words like whizzpopping. It has comedy, it has catchy songs, and it makes your heart feel all warm inside. They just don’t get as imaginative as this anymore.

Meet The Fockers

A Ben Stiller classic. The next one on from Meet The Parents, the Byrnes family meet the Focker family for the first time. Both families couldn’t be more different if they tried, which leads to some very cringe moments throughout!

Home Alone

Pick your favourite Home Alone movie, or watch a few and have a Home Alone marathon! Merry Christmas ya filthy animals!

Arthur Christmas

After Santa has finished delivering all the parcels for night, it is soon later revealed that a child has been missed. What a disaster. With 2 hours until the child wakes up, will Arthur, Santa’s clumsy son, be able to get it to her in time? Another film that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Kingsman: The Secret Service

From the director of the Kiss-Ass films, Kingsman is an action packed comedy. If you like films where you are left on the edge of your seat, plenty gory scenes and leaving you guessing what happens till the end, then you might want to watch this one, with someone who doesn’t mind you shouting at the TV!

Mean Girls

Mean Girls is centered around Cady who joins a new school and unintentionally joins the A list clique at school, The Plastics. (Amanda Seyfried, Rachael McAdams) However Cady soon falls for the queen bee Regina’s ex-boyfriend, and soon finds out that high school life can be really tough.

The Santa Clause

The Santa Clause revolves around a man inadvertently makes Santa fall of his roof on Christmas Eve, he then finds himself magically recruited to take his place. With a man not looking much like Santa at all, nor knowing how to do Santa’s job, will he be able to fit the bill, not only that, but will he also be able to keep this a secret from his non believing family?

Elf

Who doesn’t love this absolute family Christmas classic? Take a human, who is raised by elves, who finds out he’s a human and has a dad in New York City. Add some golden syrup, some spaghetti and some lucky charms, and Bob’s your uncle! Or maybe not in this case..

The Holiday

I only watched this a few years ago for the first time, and its surprising how many people still haven’t seen this film. The Holiday tells the story of two women troubled with guy problems, swapping homes in each others countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love. One where you instantly find yourself loving the likable characters and routing for them throughout the film, that they get the happiness they deserve. If you want to suspend reality for a while, this is one where you can grab a hot chocolate and get lost within the film. This is the only mushy romantic comedy you need to be watching this year, and if you haven’t seen it yet, give it a watch if you don’t mind the ending being too predictable.

The Purge Election Year

Ok, so it wouldn’t be right to leave a thriller out of the list, so I’ve chosen one that isn’t scary as such, just more jumpy. Featuring creepy masks and a lot of unpredictable moments. These films get better and better as they go on, but I’m just so thankful that this isn’t a real thing that happens!

The Greatest Showman

There’s nothing like songs that make you want to get up dance and sing along. A story which shows anything is possible if you just believe, but to also not get greedy and forget those who helped you along the way too. The question is, if you’re starting a circus from scratch, can you get it to take off enough, or are you just running away with your imagination?

Spectre

I mean, there couldn’t not be a James Bond film. Spectre is probably my favourite, but you could watch any of your choosing. A cryptic message from James Bonds Past sends him on a trail to uncover, the existence of a sinister organisation. A film full of action, which you would hope to expect, suspense, and stylish in true James Bond style, its impossible to go wrong with this one.

Miracle On 34th Street

The heartwarming scene where the little girl who is deaf, doesn’t expect Santa to be able to talk back to her, which I was told happened for real by the way. The community that does everything they can to help free Santa, and the little cute girl from Matilda. I LOVE this film, and it’s one I save till Christmas Eve every year.

Deck The Halls

Looking for ideas on how to style the outside of your house for Christmas next year? This is for the ones who are obsessed with Christmas! Directed by John Whitesell, and starring Danny DeVito, Deck The Halls follows two families who competitively want to outdo each other with everything involving Christmas. With both willing to go to extreme lengths, who is going to come out on top?

Dr Dolittle

If this isn’t a blast from the past! A good one to get your little ones to watch before the remake comes out. A doctor who discovers he can communicate with animals, and his colleagues thinking he is completely crazy!

Mary Poppins Returns

The long awaited sequel to the classic is a definite watch in my opinion this month. With a bit of magic and her friend Jack, Mary helps the family discover what they’ve been missing. I love everything about this film.

Jingle On The Way

A golden oldie. A popular action figure which is sold out in every store, a fathers promise to get it for his son. We’ve all been there where things have sold out, and we try desperately to try and get hold of them. THE STRESS.

Rocketman

This year we saw the amazing talented Taron Egerton take on role of Elton John in Rocketman. The film that tells the journey of Elton John from just when he was a child, to now. This was extremely interesting and I found out a lot of things I never knew about Elton John. Even if you’re not a fan of his, its worth a watch.

The Grinch

I bet you had thought I’d forgotten it didn’t you? Definitely not. A good one to watch with those Grinch’s in your life, you never know it might change their minds. You can’t help but feel sorry for him though. Can someone have a Christmas party, so I have an excuse to do my hair like that please?

The Nightmare Before Christmas

One for the Tim Burton fans out there. A slightly different take on a Christmas film but that doesn’t make it not as good as them! I can’t get enough of the merchandise either.
