Hello everyone, hope you are all okay and are staying safe and at home as much as you can in these strange times. Its so sad what is going on in the world, and it feels like a nightmare we can’t wake up from. I am still working for the time being but have been informed we are closing temporarily next week, which got me thinking. What do I do with myself on my time off? Along with a lot of others, I am finding this situation terrifying and the thought of staying indoors for weeks scares me, even more for my mental health, but we do need to stay indoors unless absoloutely necessary. So I’ve decided to make a list of things to do at home to keep me and my brain occupied and I thought I’d share it with you as well as it might help some of you. If you have anymore ideas, leave them in the comments below as I would love to hear new ones.
Do Some Baking
I am going to use the time to practice on my baking, and try a new recipe. I already have an idea of what I’m going to bake as its something I’ve not made before. I also think I’m going to use the time to practice on my cooking skills too. I think this is the perfect opportunity to get my creativity back, and it’s something you can do with kids too!
Declutter
This is the perfect time to sort out those wardrobes, cupboards, under the bed, spare rooms. The thought of it sounds horrible, but afterwards you will feel so much better. and when we come out of the other side of all this, we will have things to give to charity’s and shelters.
Play Cards
There are endless amount of games you can play with cards, even ones you can play on your own. I’m pretty sure most households have a pack of these somewhere and it can bring hours and hours of fun. It’s the little things, and also it helps to keep our brains active.
Facetime
This is a really important one, and I am actually really thankful that technology has improved this much. Not only can we call and check in with friends and family, but we can also video chat with them and see them. Times are going to be hard not being able to seem them in person, but this will make it just a little bit better, and its important that we keep interacting with others, so we don’t become lonely.
Try Yoga
One thing I’m going to look into is Yoga. It’s something I’ve been wanting to try for ages. I already have a Yoga mat and then I’m going to look on YouTube and see if I can find some videos. Yoga is good for the mind and soul and I think this is personally going to help me a lot. I’m hoping this will be something I enjoy and will carry on, when we wont have to isolate anymore.
Board Games
This is a good one for all ages! Why not have a board game day, or just play Monopoly and that will last you probably for the whole isolation period. Kids will really appreciate this too, and there is such a wide range of board games you can get now for all ages and different amounts of people. Guaranteed everyone has games they have somewhere in a cupboard!
Create Your Own Spa Day
Why not have a spa day from the comfort of your own home. Get the face masks out, put on a relaxing music playlist, paint your nails, and if you are with someone give each other foot massages. A great way to just completely chill and take your mind off for a bit any worries you may have. Bliss.
Read A Book, Or Even Write Your Own Book
I am definitely going to take this opportunity to read a book, I have plenty of books I want to read and even have a book I’ve half read and forgot about, now I will have no excuses, and all the time I need. Maybe your feeling adventurous and could have a go at writing your own book. I have one I’m writing in my drafts and am looking forward to getting some time to continue writing it.
Scrapbook
Got loads of photos you don’t know what to do with? Create a scrapbook. I have one on the go and honestly, I am so glad I started to do this as I love looking back on memories in the past by looking at all the pictures and little captions. Whether you create a family one or one as a couple, it’s something you can do on your own or as a family. You could even start one from now and create memories from when you had to self isolate.
Create A Scavenger Hunt
Fun for the kids, why not make a scavenger hunt where you can make clues for your kids and it leads them to a reward at the end. Things they have been learning at school, could be incorporated into the clues, so they are learning at the same time. What better way than to do it at home where hiding places are endless!
Take An Online Class
So many company’s are doing online courses at low prices at the moment. Now is a great time to learn some new skills and expand your knowledge. I think I’m going to look into some of these as I think it would be good for when the boredom kicks in, as even being an adult, it’s good to keep learning and carry on educating yourself.
Look At The Stars
I wanted to finish on this one. To end the day nicely why not if you have a garden or even just from a window, look at the stars. There will be lots of new ones up there, as unfortunately there are a lot of people passing away from this dreadful virus. At the moment these people are just a number as there’s too many people to even get names. Hopefully at some point we will learn a few of them, and by looking at the stars we can just have a little moment to remember those who have tragically passed away. This is why it is important more than ever to…
