Thought I would bring something different to the blog this week, and go back to my old routes of fashion, which I’ve managed to gain my passion back for in the last few months. I love how clothes give you the freedom of expressing yourself, and in a way bring out the person you are. Don’t get me wrong I spend weekdays living in oversized t-shirts and jumpers, but at the weekend when I’m not working, I like to get dressed up. Some people make comments and say I get too dressed up, but is there such thing as overdressed? It might not be to everyone’s tastes but that’s the whole fun of it.
I decided that I wanted to try a brand of clothing I’ve not tired before, and after much browsing, I wanted that to be the brand Free People. There collection is based on 70’s vibes and what I love about it is that its so bohemian and full of attitude. There prints are very me, and I don’t really like things too girly, and in my opinion this is the right balance for my personal style, the collection is girly, but with a tomboy edge, which is what made me fall in love with this brand, and I could easily spend a fortune on it. At the moment they do have a sale on, which include loads of different items, and your bound to find at least 5 items you want haha.
I chose this floral print dress, as I really loved the colours and the overall style of it, its not something my wardrobe currently has. I really like it on the model in the pictures, but when I received it in person, I don’t think the pictures actually show how truly stunning this dress is. Something I was really surprised about is it comes with an underlayer, which it’s up to you whether you want to wear with the dress or not. It would be a bit see through without, but you could wear swimwear under it and it would be perfect for the beach. I would happily pay full price for this, as you definitely get what you pay for so its very much worth it.
The material is so lightweight, so it doesn’t feel like its weighing you down, you can tell how good quality it is, just by the feel of it. It falls perfectly as well, does that make sense? Probably not haha! It falls in the right places, usually I find things like that just end up hanging from my boobs, but this doesn’t, it drapes nicely. It’s very true to size as well, so just select your normal size and its guaranteed to fit. Something that is quite unusual is to fasten it, you tie it from the back of the neck, which I love because it creates a pretty bow, which adds to the overall look. I couldn’t love an item of clothing more right now, than what I do this dress.
So it’s a very versatile piece, that can be worn all year round. In the colder months you could pair it with knee high boots, or even tights and knee highs. In the hotter months, not like scorching hot, but the breezier days, you can wear it on its own with sandals, or trainers or converse. It’s also suitable for all different types of occasions, I’ve already mentioned the beach, but also first date, I wore it to go shopping in the other week, I must admit it did catch me out a few times, and I’m pretty sure I flashed my underwear twice because of how windy it was, but it was perfect for that, because you can play it down, or dress it up as much as you like.
I also want to point out I am 5’2 and was a little worried about where the length would come on me, but I actually really like the length, it’s definitely not too long, so yeah don’t be put off. There has been numerous of times when I’ve ordered items and they’ve just looked ridiculous on me because of how short I am, but it hasn’t been the case with this brand. I should also mention that it is currently reduced to £41 from £100 and I can tell you now, for the quality, £41 is cheap.
It’s so hard taking full length pictures of yourself, so I apologise for the overall quality, they aren’t exactly Insta worthy, but as soon as I get a chance to take some better ones I’ll insert them into this post for you, but for now you’ll have to make do with my home setting, and horrible self timer skills haha.
