My Listening Ear 2021 Week 2

(Image is not my own)

Hello everyone, I hope you are all well, I thought it had been a while since I shared some of my favourite songs with you, so here I am with some more recommendations. I thought it was quite a nice post to come back to and write, because I don’t know about anyone else, but music makes me feel better whatever the mood I’m in, whether that’s feeling really sad or really happy, so I hope this helps you in some kind of way. I’ve tried to include all different kinds of tempo, some are genre’s I wouldn’t normally listen too, but I’m always open minded, and this is what I’ve been loving at the moment. As always I really enjoy hearing other people’s recommendations, so if you have something you think I’ll like, feel free to share it in the comments below, and who knows it may end up the next what I’ve been listening to post.

Selena Gomez – Lose You To Love Me

Do you ever hear a song and like it, but never follow up on it and forget about it? Does that make sense? I remember hearing this and loving it and just left it, until the other day when it was played in the background of something I was watching, and I was like no, I’m getting my app out this time to scan it. I think this song is beautiful and the lyrics speak so much. I think this is a song that everyone can relate to at least once in their life. I think it really exposes the darkness of how relationships can turn. I mean I’ll speak for myself and say that I can name 2 relationships where by the end of them I hated myself because of them. It can be such a toxic situation to be in, but the minute you realise you no longer love yourself anymore, that person is not for you. So I think its a song that has quite a deep meaning behind it about acceptance and growth, but its definitely one to listen to if you haven’t already.

Glass Animals – Heat Waves

You know when you just hear one of those songs and instantly it makes you get up and dance, well this is it. I absolutely love this track, its just so upbeat, fun and like a proper summer tune, even though we are or have come out of summer. (I’m not quite sure, the weather is quite confusing at the moment!) If you listen to the words of this song, its not actually as happy as it sounds but I don’t know it just sounds so chilled, and I just really love the beat, its very electronic and quite “popy”.

BLACKPINK – How You Like That

Ok ok, I have to say it, this is one of the best dance music videos I’ve seen in a very long time! I need to learn this at some point because I LOVE it! I really appreciate the amount of work and time that went into that. Anyways how good is this song?! If I’m honest I’m not really into the kpop scene, but this is really catchy. I definitely will be checking out other BLACKPINK songs and dance choreography.

Holly Humberstone – The Walls Are Way To Thin

This is the first time I’ve heard of Holly, but I really love this song. I’m actually just sat in my chair dancing to it now, it’s just such an easy to listen to song. It just kind of takes me back like 13 years to when I was a teen and listened to music like this, however I shall try not to overplay this one. The words are really catchy, the song is fairly upbeat, and she has quite a haunting but beautiful voice. Someone actually described this song as “prom vibes” and I actually think they hit the nail on the head there. I can’t believe my prom was 10 years ago, so yeah thanks for that, I now feel old haha. It’s worth pointing out that Holly can really sing live as well. BBC Live put on her live version of this on their YouTube channel, and her voice just sounds even more purer.

Beth – Places

So this is a cover of Martin Solveig’s version and I actually love it. My only wish is that it was longer, however I can understand why it is short, I guess there is only so much you can do with it. Her voice is very sweet, and the different tones to her sound, really makes this a beautiful version.

Bebe Rexha – Sabotage

I don’t think Bebe Rexha has done one song that I don’t like, and her voice is unreal. I love the different tones to it, and also I don’t really watch music videos as much as I use to anymore, but I will always watch hers because they are always so creative and artistic. This song is beautiful when you listen to the lyrics, and I also feel like Bebe sings everything with such meaning, like she feels everything she’s singing. I definitely would love to see her perform live if her videos are anything to go by, because I do think you would really be in for a show. Apparently this is featured in the Sims 4, I wouldn’t know because I don’t have it, but if you feel like you’ve heard this before, then that is most likely why.

Doja Cat Feat The Weeknd – You Right

I keep hearing this song on the radio whenever I’m driving about and it has really grown on me. It’s quite catchy and I love The Weeknd’s voice, it’s just so smooth, and just different but in a really good way. Anyways back to the song, I just feel like it brings really chilled out vibes and very easy to listen too. This is probably the second song I’ve only listened to by Doja Cat, apart from the TikTok one everyone was using for their videos, which I’ve not liked as much, probably because it was heavily overplayed everywhere. Nevertheless this is a song that will get stuck in your head once you’ve heard it, just not a fan of the overall message.

Dermot Kennedy – Without Fear

Wow, wow, wow, this has to be one of my favourite Dermot Kennedy songs ever! Not only is his voice so pure and beautiful, but he sings every single word of his songs with such meaning. Which leads me on to saying what an incredibly talented person he is, not only with his singing, but with his song writing too. There will be at least one song that you will be able to relate to, and will be like yeah I felt that. Honestly go and check out this album because I instantly fell in love with it, there isn’t a bad song on there, there’s a lot passion within it. Like I said this is in my top 2, and I just felt instantly connected and attached with it, not to mention the different tones to the sound of his voice in this is just perfection. I couldn’t of picked a better song to finish this blog post on, I hope if you listen to it, it touches your soul like it did mine.

I would also just like to say thank you so much for sticking around, I now have a plan of action with this blog and where I would like it to go. I’ve also received some really lovely comments recently on past posts, so thank you for those too, it can be quite scary opening up so much to so many of you, but your comments always make that go away and also make me smile and my heart happy.

I will see you in another post real soon!
